The size of the bedroom, plus a sitting room which we were not expecting, loved the exposed beams in parts of the building and the quirkiness of it. Loved the fact we were 10mins from center of town, and plenty of pubs, bistros, and restaurants to choose from.

It was very dated especially dining area and corridors.but what I felt let it down. I left a pair of reading glasses in the room only discovered this when I got home to hamilton phoned that night was contacted next day to say no glasses were found I know for a fact I left them in bedside drawer. So disappointed in that respect

Wonderful building, enjoy staying in traditional historical hotel with character and interesting layout. Staff helpful/excellent. Service very good. I would recommend others use this hotel.Nice sitting area in lobby towards bar.Walking distance of durham cathedral and old town centre. Only £135 for 2 nights very reasonable.

Barmaid lacked knowledge of drinks. No real ale, but loads of wonderful pubs within walking distance so no real problem. Lick of paint needed here and there.

Communal areas are well maintained and decor has a lot of character - charming and quaint. Breakfast was also very good, as were the staff.

The room was quite 'tired' and the bathroom was very old. Everything was clean, but the bathrooms need refurbishing to bring the fittings into the 21st century!

Clean and bed was comfortable. Room was warm.

Very noisy during the night from people on the street. Badly in need of refurbishment particularly the bathroom, didnt make me want to use the shower/bath. Floor basic lino and no bath mat. Unable to turn tap off properly on sink.

traditional building with character breakfast staff extremely attentive and friendly would reccomend after for-warning re-cleanliness issues of room

room in need of through deep clean soiled walls and bathroom cabinet had dirty stains no protective covers on pillows or matresses. ( not very hygienic) no childrens menu or option for any form of child friendly choice in resteraunt

    good location and good price

hotel needs updating. Big holes in the curtains and mould around the inside and outside of the shower cubicle, burn holes to lamp shades and paint work flaking and light bulbs needing replaced, this is the 4th time we have stayed there and we can see how run down it is

the staff. The breakfast room had very interesting carved doors, a lovely original old room. Our bedroom on the front was huge with double glazing so quiet.

no meal at lunch time and bar not open till 6 pm. We arrived about 12.30 so had to go out to eat. The decor could do with a refurb.

The run down state of the whole hotel I stayed in the hotel in 2001 when it was very run down The same wallpaper is even more run down now. The acoustic ceiling tiles in the corridors are falling down due to water leaks The bathroom mastic sealant around the bath is black with mildew and grease As a business traveller all over the world including third world countries this is the worst hotel I have stayed in over the last 15 years

Very friendly hotel and staff and has more character than chains like the Radisson. very good value for money. Very pleased to have been upgraded to a suite.

The hotel is very tired and needs a good lick of paint, warmer colours and a littel tlc. Carpets need changing to make it more welcoming. The net curtains in our room were very dirty. The breakfast was not good, very cheap bread used for the toast which was soggy. Poached eggs were tasteless.

Staff are always friendly and helpful. Rooms are really clean and bright. Really good breakfast. Location is excellent for seeing Durham. We always stay here when bringing our daughter to and from university.

Our room this time was a little smaller than usual, but not a problem. The carpets could really do with replacing, not so much in the bedrooms but elsewhere in the hotel. The taps in our room were leaky.

The spaciousness of the room, with enough seating and a desk to work at. After some hotel rooms we have experienced, this was very welcome. The fact that there was an iron and ironing board in the room. The beds were very comfortable. The staff were generally helpful.

The decor was tired, the bathroom needed a complete makeover. But that did not outweigh the good points of our stay.

Spacious room, comfy bed and great location for the city with free parking!

The staff were local and extremely friendly and welcoming. The room was large,well-equipped and ideally located for the town centre with some good real ale pubs within 100 yards. Although the exterior could do with a spruce-up the interior is lovely, dating back several centuries with lots of little nooks and crannies where you could sit quietly with a drink and a book if that's what you wanted. We would definitely recommend the Swallow Three Tuns as a place to stay in Durham.

Not much apart from the rather faded exterior which is not a reflection of the lovely interior.

The bed was the most comfortable bed I have slept in. The staff were helpful and friendly. The food was also very good. It is in an excelent location and has parking.

The decor in the room was a little in need of updating.
